Cliff Notes on Fractals

Okie shared the following video with us a while ago; it is a great intro if you need one.

PS- use this link if the video will not work, I am having a little trouble embedding so this is a backup.

I saw that this year on PBS. I had no knowledge of fractals prior. I had been buying Jhane Barnes clothes for years but it was when I saw her on this program that I made the connection. Great program!

It takes all kinds to make a world.
What do you have against Steve, and WHY do you think he is a Social Darwinist ?
I am.. MYSTIFIED.
I would like mucho more reasoning to understand why Steve is a social darwinist. (That sounds evil, right ? 11th commandment... Thou shalt not be a Social Darwinist...)
It sounds as though you are operating under a major misconception :
The purpose of language is exclusively for communication.
This is a BIG misconception.
When "we" talk, we are not necessarily talking to "communicate a message with an ideally unambiguous content.
That is utopic thinking.
Oddly enough... I can be rather pragmatic.
What good is getting all upset that people don't talk JUST to communicate information ?
Will it change things ?
No.
On pseudo science...
I had this discussion with Hell in the jungle.
In one of his last posts he talked about banking becoming "banking".
Like you're saying that science is becoming "science".
BUT.. I think that what is happening is that the WORD "SCIENCE" is simply changing meaning.
Our words change meaning all the time.
Because they are not set in stone.
And when they change meaning, since the social body is heterogenous, that means that.. the oldies who had THIS definition of the word "science" get all upset that the younger generation now has THAT definition of the word "science".
Our ancestors, if they were still around, would be screaming that WE have perverted the meaning of the word "science".
Why do our words change meaning ?
We can go into that later.

I always thought the connection had to do with the tremendous amounts of prayer and wishful thinking one engaged in when one discovered they had The Clap.
